In his current stint, Kerala Tourism is making rapid progress in becoming a powerhouse performer of India. He has contributed to the new Kerala Tourism Policy 2017, where in Kerala has created path for doubling tourist arrivals without compromising on its ideals of Responsible & Accessible Tourism. He has led creation of RT Mission in 2017, which has grown into 16,081 units with 81,,098 beneficiaries. He has taken steps for creating new avenues in Kerala Tourism – Adventure, Yoga and MICE tourism. Recently, he has also provided leadership to a first ever Champions Boat League (CBL) a unique sports league of Snake Boat racing, on the lines of EPL & La Liga. Kerala Tourism has won more than 10 National awards during his tenure along with 5 PATA awards and 2 WTM awards. 

Academically, he has done Post-graduate (Master of Technology) in Computer Science & Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) MADRAS. Later, he has joined Government of India as Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in 2008.

He has vast experience in Administrative service and has worked as Sub Collector in Thiruvalla and Kasaragod districts in Kerala. He has worked as Head of Department in Information Technology, Social Justice, Local self government over the years. As Director, Kerala IT Mission, provided leadership to e-Governance activities in Kerala. 

As District Collector & District Magistrate of Kannur in 2014, P Bala Kiran has won lot of laurels for his outstanding work. “Mission Mangroves Kannur” (where in 1873 acres of Mangroves surveyed and 600 acres notified as “Mangrove Reserve Forest”).  His other initiative, “Barrier Free Kannur” won National Award from Ministry of Social Justice for the above project from Hon President of India. During this stint, he has also won National Award from Election Commission of India for Best Electoral Practices & was given “Best Collector Award” by Government of Kerala in Feb 2016 (from Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala). 

In 2017, he has worked as Managing Director of Kannur International Airport and has completed the construction and ORAT operations before its launch in 2018.
