Martin is an international development consultant with an interest in the interface between child protection and tourism.  Over nearly two decades he has lived and worked in the UK, India and Nepal designing and implementing innovative child protection and anti-trafficking programmes.  He previously worked for JK Rowling’s NGO, Lumos, where he trained organisations and governments to transition from orphanages to family and community-based care.  Prior to this he was the Country Director for Next Generation Nepal where he pioneered and led Nepal’s orphanage voluntourism campaign to expose the links between institutionalisation, trafficking and volunteering; and he worked collaboratively with the travel sector to promote ethical volunteering.  Martin also led grassroots programmes in Nepal to rescue, rehabilitate and reunify orphanage trafficked children, and to keep 46,000 vulnerable families together after the devastating 2015 earthquake.
