Job TitleChief Executive

Company NameSave the Rhino

About

Since 2001, Cathy has been the CEO of Save the Rhino International, a UK-registered charity working to conserve viable populations of the five species of rhino in Africa and Asia. Cathy and her team raise funds for long-term rhino programmes, particularly those working in the “big four” rhino range states – Kenya, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa – as well as one-off projects, such as workshops to look at new technologies for rhino monitoring and security or scene-of-the-crime training courses. More recently, Save the Rhino has worked with NGOs in Vietnam and China to deliver behaviour-change campaigns aimed at reducing the demand for illegal rhino horn. Cathy’s particular remit is to liaise closely with field programmes to determine priority needs and then to build collaborative partnerships with in and ex situ partners and funders to piece together the financing needed to implement rhino conservation strategies. She is a member of the IUCN SSC African and Asian Rhino Specialist Groups, won the IUCN Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership in 2015 and is a member of the DICE Advisory Board. In her spare time, she has run six marathons and three ultra-marathons to raise funds for rhino conservation, most recently the first iteration of the 5-day 230-km ForRangers Ultra, which routes through four rhino conservancies in Kenya: Lewa, Borana, Ol Jogi and Ol Pejeta.
